Daft Punk and The Weeknd Being Sued for $5 Million for Sample on “Starboy”

Daft Punk and The Weeknd found themselves in the middle of a huge lawsuit regarding the 2016 hit “Starboy”

TMZ reports that the single boasts numerous similarities to “Hooyo” by Yasminah. The Somalian-American singer claims that the song contains a similar hook, same tempo, same key, along with other elements.

Yasminah says two of the producers of “Hooyo” planned to sue her, but instead opted for a settlement. She did not receive any money from the producers’ settlement.

“Starboy” which was featured on the same- titled album, has performed well since its release It reached number four on Billboard’s 100 Best R&B Songs of 2016 list and is certified 6x platinum.
