It was a dark and stormy night at the El Royale. A run-down hotel, with a very unique history, that sits on the border between California and Nevada. One night, seven strangers make their way to the hotel, for different reasons, and before you know it… all hell breaks loose.
Right from the get go, things seem a lil odd, in a good way. You notice something’s not right with the first three characters (Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Jon Hamm). But you become intrigued, quickly, to see where it’s going. Then, when we meet it’s final guest (Dakota Johnson) and the hotels only employee, Miles Miller (Lewis Pullman), you’d better hold on to your seats because it’s gonna be a bumpy night… LoL
I liked the way the film was put together, was very Tarantino like. Showing the story of the nights events from everyone’s point of view. And in doing so we get to learn more about each characters real purpose for being there, as well as discover the dark secrets of the hotel. They didn’t hold back with the dramatics either… it got violent and bloody. 🙂
When it comes to the cast… even though all of them were great, I really enjoyed watching Chris Hemsworth in this one. His “Manson” like character was a dominating presence in each scene. However, my favorite character in all of this was Miles Miller. Slowly but surely we learned more and more about him, and all the things he had seen and done… and it wasn’t pretty. I honestly think Pullmans performance as Miles, could earn himself a Supporting Nomination during award season.
The overall thinking about this one, it’s going to be a great way to spend 2 hours. And even the most tuned in movie watcher won’t be able to predict where it going and what’s about to happen.
