Police in San Antonio, Texas are investigating a bizarre crime that involves the unexplained disappearance of a young woman’s body from her casket.
Julie Mott died Aug. 8 from complications related to cystic fibrosis. She was just 25. Funeral services for the young woman — whose friends and family poured onto her Facebook page to express their condolences and share stories about Mott’s fortitude — were held Aug. 15, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The casket was later moved into a hallway to await cremation.
The next day, funeral home employees found the casket empty.
“In my 22 years in law enforcement this is the first time I have ever heard of this happening,” San Antonio Police Department Sgt. Javier Salazar said.
The funeral home is offering a $20,000 reward for information on the disappearance, the city’s ABC affiliate reported.
