Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) has his former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his two children care for a newborn elephant, Dumbo. Dumbo’s over-sized ears make him the laughing stock of the show. But Holt’s children discover that Dumbo can actually fly. As word of this unbelievable story spreads, entrepreneur VA Vandevere wants to have Dumbo for his own main event at his own, larger than life entertainment venue… Dreamland.
For the most part, all these Disney remakes of their classic animated films have been really well done. But you knew at some point, one of them wasn’t gonna cut the mustard…. Hello, Dumbo.
Although it started off in the right direction, it quickly became something completely different that what fans are familiar with. Since the original Dumbo movie was barely and hour long, they had to create something extra for this new telling of Dumbo, but it really didn’t work very well.
Except for the cuteness of Dumbo, the rest of what we were looking at was pretty dark, and sad. I know it might be a personal issue I have, cause I hate when the settings of movies really don’t look real. And Dreamland was way over the top unbelievable…. I think that makes sense.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some nice moments in this film, like the way they did the Pink Elephant Parade… that was great. The rest however, not so much.
