Picking up five years after Godzilla defeated the MUTOs, the members of Monarch are now facing a greater challenge. Monsters from all over the world have risen and are threatening the existence of all humanity. It’s up to Godzilla to battle the other giant monsters, like the flying Rodan and King Ghidorah, to save the planet and all mankind.
Who doesn’t love a good monster movie??? I know I do. And I’m really excited to see where this whole MonsterVerse is going.
So far the first two films have been very enjoyable. Interesting stories with even better action. Which is pretty much what we get in King Of The Monsters. Granted I think 2014’s Godzilla had a much better story, King Of The Monsters delivers the battle scenes monster fans will absolutely love. All at the expense of the city of Boston… I guess San Francisco was still pretty messed up after the first film.
I loved how they really let the monsters do some damage. Literally destroyed everyplace we see them. As a good monster movie should. The look of each monster was pretty awesome too. Similar to how we might remember them from way back when, but given more detailed features thanks to the CGI. Personally, I think I would have liked to see more of these god-sized creatures. Meaning, they said there were 17 or 18 of them but we only really saw 5 or 6. Hopefully they’ll give us more later.
On the humans side of things, I wasn’t too impressed with this part of it. I know it serves a purpose but I found them (Monarch) in too many situations that would be impossible for them to be so calm and come out unscaved. As far as the cast goes, I see what the purpose of having Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga was, but not really why they needed Millie Bobby Browns character. It was like they needed to add something to the subplot and cast hollywoods “It Kid” just because.
That part aside, I still enjoyed this one and I think other Monster Movie fans will too. After all this is leading us to something that will, hopefully, be even more exciting, in the near future… Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.
