I haven’t screened very many movies this year. Granted, it’s still the beginning of the year, but it’s not good when one of the first films I watched had me wanting to turn it off almost immediately. That film I struggled to get through happened to be “The Wolf and the Lion”.
The first issue I had with this film was I didn’t know who it was for. Is it supposed to be for kids, adults, teenagers, or families? Although our lead, Molly Kunz, has a charm about her, I just don’t think it catered to any of the possible audiences. The other issue was the wolf and the lion. The movie is about them but the story seemed to be more about Alma’s (Kunz) journey to find them after they disappear. Again, that journey didn’t feel like it had the appeal for a certain audience. Finally… Who are these people? Except for Graham Greene, I didn’t know any of the stars of this film. And their performance, unfortunately, seemed more on the level of community theater… No offense to community theaters. LoL
I’m sure there could have been a better way to tell this story and make it more entertaining, but director, Gilles de Maistre, failed to capture that here.
