Your Quick & Simple Review: “Long Shot”

Journalist, Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) has a knack for getting into trouble. while Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron), is one of the most influential women in the world as the United States, Secretary Of State.   After things take a downward turn for Fred, he randomly runs into Charlotte at a charity event, where he soon realizes that she was his former baby sitter and childhood crush.  When Charlotte decides to make a run for the presidency, she impulsively hires Fred as her speechwriter.  Although Fred is the fish out of water, his charm and self-deprecating humor help create sparks between he and Charlotte.  Leading to an around the world romance, mixed with a little bit of danger.

It can be real hit/miss with Seth Rogen movies.  In the past he’s been part of some really funny films that I can watch over and over again.  And some that I will change the channel in a heart beat.   With Long Shot, this is one of the watch over and over films.

Although I have a hard time buying Seth and Charlize as a real couple, they still have plenty of chemistry between them to make this work.  I was worried that Charlize, who is more of a serious actress, wouldn’t be able to hold her own in the comedy, but she did.

The raunchy sense of humor may not work for everyone, but if it’s your cup of tea, like it is mine, this will have you literally Laughing Out Loud.  The only thing I could have wanted more of in this one would have been a few more moments with O’Shea Jackson.  He pretty much steals every scene he’s in.

Good romantic comedies are hard to come by, especially this time of year, when all the big summer blockbusters are about to take over the box office.  Long Shot will be a much needed option for folks just looking to laugh and smile.
