Now that all the lovey-dovey valentines movies are out of the way, it’s time to head to the theaters and enjoy a good ol horror flick. This week we actually have one that’s actually pretty good and has a cast that you know from somewhere, just never knew their names.
I love a good horror flick, and even though there is a lot that gets released every year, not all are very good. Hell, most of them aren’t any good. So, even though the trailer for the new movie, The Cursed, looked really good, I had my doubts. But then I watched it and was extremely happy that it did not disappoint. It reminded me a bit of 2015’s The Witch. The gothic style gave it a nice sinister vibe. And the cast of almost unknowns, led by Boyd Holbrook & Kelly Reilly, gave very good performances. I will say, I wasn’t sitting on the edge of my seat, but there was a couple of good jump scares and moments that just make you say… Ewwww
The only thing that I started to have a problem with was something that a lot of horror flicks do when they feature Ghosts, Monster, or Demons. They show the creature too much. The Cursed almost started to do the same thing, but fortunately, it was closer to the end of the movie so it didn’t take away from the movie. I tend to believe that if you show the creature too much, you’ll lose its fear factor. And keeping that fear is what makes a horror film good.
Like I said before, there aren’t very many good scary movies that come out, so when one that is actually good comes out, it should be seen. This weekend, put away all the remaining chocolates in that heart-shaped candy box and grab a big tub of popcorn and have fun being scared for a lil while.
