Now that it’s the weekend, that means it’s time for new movies to come out. And this weekend, on Prime Video, the big-name movie is “Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse”, starring Michael B. Jordan. An action/thriller, with a pretty good cast, and one that should have been better than it is.
The first thing that got me about the film was, how slow-paced it seemed to be. Even though they were setting up moments that were action-packed, I felt like it was taking forever to get to. And when it did finally get there, the action sequence felt slow-moving too. And it felt like that the whole way thru.
As far as the acting goes, MBJ is solid, as always. But this is a situation where even a good performance can’t save a not very good script. Jordan is surrounded by some pretty castmates. I liked Jodie Turner-Smith the most. To me, she was believable in her role. Maybe what this film needed was more of her in it. The other cast members weren’t bad but not great either. Guy Pearce, I think, was underutilized. Instead, they gave us more of Jaime Bell as the teaser bad guy.
I think this movie had potential, but unfortunately, director Stefano Sollima, couldn’t take this weak script and turn it into something better. And since this film set’s up for a sequel, I would hope that they learn from many mistakes here to make their next one much better.
The beauty of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse is that it’s free with your Amazon Prime subscription, so you can check it out anytime without dishing out any extra cash. But if you’re like me, you probably won’t be rushing to see it again anytime soon.
